Title : SUSTA Written Quiz Competition

Objectives:

  • To generate interest in the field of statistics among students.
  • To enhance knowledge and skills in statistics.
  • To encourage healthy competition among students, motivating them to strive for excellence and improve their performance
  • To provide recognition and rewards to outstanding performers, acknowledging their achievements and encouraging them to continue their journey in statistics. This can serve as a source of motivation for students and highlight their talents and capabilities

Context :

The Shivaji University Statistics Teachers Association (SUSTA) is an organization dedicated to promoting the field of statistics and fostering collaboration among statistics teachers in Shivaji University and its affiliated institutions. One of the initiatives undertaken by SUSTA is the organization of a written quiz competition. The written quiz competition organized by SUSTA Is typically open to undergraduate students studying statistics or related disciplines. The competition aims to provide a platform for students to test their knowledge, skills, and understanding of statistical concepts and applications The competition is designed to cover a wide range of topics within statistics, including probability, sampling, statistical inference, hypothesis testing, regression analysis, and data visualization. The quiz questions are carefully crafted to challenge participants and assess their understanding of both theoretical concepts and practical applications. Winners & high performing participants in the quiz competition may be awarded prizes, certificates. This serves as an incentive for students to actively participate. Overall, the SUSTA written quiz competition is an engaging & educational event that promotes the study of statistics, encourages healthy competition among students & provides a platform for recognition & professional development.

The Practice:

1.The planning and organization of the quiz competition involved the following key steps:

  1. Defined objectives, target audience, and areas of focus.
  2. Selected a suitable date, time, and venue for the event.
  3. Developed a set of well-crafted quiz questions covering various aspects of statistics.
  4. Determined the format, scoring system, and time duration for the competition.
  5. Promoted the competition through various channels to reach the target audience.
  6. Established a registration process and selected participants based on eligibility criteria.

2.Conducting the Quiz Competition: On the day of the competition, the following steps were taken:

  1. Participants arrived at the designated venue and were seated individually.
  2. Clear instructions and guidelines were provided to participants.
  3. Answer sheets, writing materials, and any additional instructions were distributed.
  4. The quiz competition started on time and adhered to the predetermined time duration. e. Invigilators monitored the competition to ensure fairness & integrity

3.Grading and Evaluation: After the completion of the competition, the following steps were taken for   grading and evaluation:

  1. Collected the answer sheets from participants.
  2. Evaluated the answers based on predetermined criteria and scoring system.
  3. Assigned point values or assessed answers as required by the format.
  4. Calculated the scores & determined the winners based on performance.

4.Winners and Prizes:Based on the evaluation, the following participants were declared winners:

Evidence of Success :

Department of Statistics & Shivaji University Statistics Teachers` Association has organized a SUSTA Written Quiz on 05/06/2022. For the quiz Miss. M.A.Mulik & Mr.P.H.Borate were appointed as a supervisor.  11 students from B.Sc.III & 11 students from B.Sc.II were participated in the quiz competition. 4 students of Statistics Department achieved grand success in written quiz competition. In B.Sc.III  Suvidya Nanaso Shinde got 2nd prize & sonali Arjun Jagtap got 3rd prize in district level. In B.Sc.II Pratiksha Vilas Dhok got 1st prize & Tejaswini Amrut Bhosale got 3rd prize in district level.

An important measure of success is the impact on participants interest in statistics. The quiz competition sparked curiosity & generated a heightened interest in the field among students. Many participants expressed their desire to further explore statistics & pursue related academic or professional paths.

 

Problem Encountered & Resources required:

Here are some common problems that may arise & the resources required to address them:

1.Limited financial resources can pose a challenge when organizing the quiz competition

  1. Finding a suitable venue that accommodates the anticipated number of participants and provides the necessary facilities can be challenging,

Resources Required: Start venue planning early to secure a suitable location. Collaborate with university administration to reserve appropriate lecture halls, auditoriums, or classrooms..

3.Quiz Question Preparation:

Problem: Developing a comprehensive set of high-quality quiz questions that cover various aspects of statistics can be time-consuming and may require expertise.

Resources Required: Engage experienced statistics teachers or subject matter experts to help develop the quiz questions.

4.Participant Registration and Communication:

Problem: Managing participant registrations, communication, and coordination can be a logistical challenge, especially when dealing with a large number of participants.

Resources Required: Establish a streamlined registration process through online platforms or dedicated email addresses. Assign a team or volunteers to handle registrations, respond to queries, and communicate important updates to participants in a timely manner.

5.Time Management:

Problem: Effectively managing time during the quiz competition, ensuring timely start and completion, and maintaining a structured schedule can be demanding.

Resources Required: Develop a detailed timeline and schedule for the event, allowing sufficient time for registration, orientation, the quiz itself, and award distribution.
