Department of Chemistry
The Lal Bahadur Shastri College was started by educationalist and social reformer Dr Bapuji Salunkhe in 1967with Arts and Commerce faculty. The Department of Chemistry was established in 1967 as under graduate course. From 2013, we have newly started P.G. course with Analytical Chemistry Section to meet the overwhelming response of Chemistry graduates. From 2013 university authority has given affiliation to start Ph. D. and M. Phil. degrees to our department. Presently eight Ph. D research student working under the guidance of Dr. R. V. Shejwal, Dr. C. P. Mane and
The Alumini of Department is holding the higher position in National Laboratories and institution of our country as well as abroad. Department has computerized data from the year 2001.
Chemistry Department has sufficient infrastructure faculty for doing research work, to engage classes and conduct U. G. and P.G. practicals. In general library about 700 reference books are available. Two research journals are subscribed in library. Better library services and sufficient internet connectivity are provided to the department. There is separate lecture hall for P. G. Class in the department with provision of modern video-audio facilities. The department has separate central sophisticated instrumental facility equipped with Electrochemical Work station, UV-Visible Spectrophotometer, pH meter, Conductometer, Flame Photometer, Digital Polarimeter, Colorimeter, Potentiometer,Florimeter, Nephelometer, Refractometer, Incubator, Vacuum pump, Deep Freezer, etc.

Chemistry department has broad canvas of research activities competing basic as well as applied research and contributed significantly by publishing research papers. synthetic chemistry, Green Chemistry, Solvent Extraction, Coordination Chemistry and Nanotechnology are the areas of intense research in the department.
Presently eight Ph. D research student working under the guidance of Dr. R. V. Shejwal and Dr Avinash Nalawade.
The department has published about 22 research papers in national and international journals having high impact factor. The faculty and students of the department have presented papers in various conference, symposia and workshop.
Department has organized workshop to provide special coaching to P.G. Students appearing for NET and SET Examination.
Funding Received :
From the last five years the department has achieved significant goals in various fronts. It was really satisfying that department has received funds 4.5 lakhs for individual MRP projects from UGC New Delhi. Recently one faculty members have applied for MRP to UGC, New Delhi.
The department will endeavor to remain at forefront of basic science in important thrust areas by the vision, imagination, knowledge and sustained hard work will progress rapidly in academic, teaching and research activation planned for near future.
